We are CLOSING our beloved bookstore as of March 31, 2010
We are sorry to have to inform our customers and supporters that we will be closing Urban Think! Bookstore at the end of this month. After nine wonderful years, the hard financial facts involved in running an independent bookstore in the current economy is a reality that we are unable to constantly try and meet.

As well, the ways in which books are purchased and read by people in today's technological climate presents a challenge that does not lend itself to supporting a brick-and-mortar store such as Urban Think!

What began as a small store established in the Autumn of 2001 evolved into a durable neighborhood institution that offered great books, stimulating events, and a commitment to the cultural enhancement of Thornton Park. In those ways, we succeeded mightily, and we sincerely thank our loyal customers for those opportunities. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The legacy of Urban Think! Bookstore will be manifested in the Urban Think! Foundation, which was founded in April of 2008, and it has become a very successful and meaningful charitable organization. While supporting various community programs, it also supports the acclaimed Page 15 literacy initiative directed by Julia Young. (Page15.org) The Urban Think! Foundation is part of the future planning process, and we envision that the space will be used to support and enhance the Foundation's mission. Stay tuned for further announcements! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Meanwhile, we are having a huge clearance sale of all our stock. Stop in and see what we have to offer, at some really great discounts... up to 35% OFF all stock! Children's books, fiction, non-fiction ... it's all priced to move, so come in and pick up some great additions for your library.

Thank you !

Title of Event: Kelle Groom Reads and Signs Five Kingdoms
When: Saturday, March 20, 2010 6:30 PM
Location: UrbanThink! Bookstore
Description: Urban Think! Bookstore will host the Orlando Book Party for Kelle Groom's third collection of poems, Five Kingdoms. Groom, a longtime Orlando resident who now lives in New Smyrna Beach, will read from her new book. Groom’s previous collections are Luckily, winner of a Florida Book Award, and Underwater City (University Press of Florida, 2004). Her poetry has appeared in The New Yorker, Ploughshares, and Poetry among other magazines, and is forthcoming in Best American Poetry 2010, guest edited by Amy Gerstler (Scribner, 2010). A book signing will follow the reading. Kelle Groom's new book attempts to categorize the world, make sense of its violence, loss, and beauty. Her poetry cross-references politics, biology, history, domesticity, and war. Her work glows with her spirit and intellect, explodes with joy and grief. Five Kingdoms sings with what it is to be human. -- Denise Duhamel Kelle Groom's poems are like underwater songs, sung from the submerged continent of the inner life, the life we don't often expose to the outer world, the one we don't speak of. They are wry, artful, sad, loving, and moving. A true pleasure. -- Tony Hoagland

By Night in Chile
by Bolano, Roberto, Andrews, Christopher
The deathbed confession, told in one paragraph, of a Chilean priest, aspiring poet and established literary critic who didn’t have such a tough time under the repressive government of Pinochet. There’s something about this short novel I can’t put my finger on… it’s charming and frightening—oh, and part of it involves pigeon removal by means of falconry.
